What Is Leaky Gut?

“All disease begins in the gut” (1) Over 80% of the U.S. population has some form of leaky gut or related symptoms. There is certain triggers that exasperate these symptoms such as, food sensitivities, constipation, anxiety, inflammation and weight issues. Leaky gut can throw off your immune system, hormones, and brain function. What can we do to treat leaky gut? There are over 11,000 studies generated from on (Intestinal Permeability).

Leaky gut can affect the whole body. When your small intestine gets damaged and your gut starts to leak into the “net” in your digestive tract gets damaged, which causes even bigger holes to develop in your net, so things that normally can’t pass through, are now be able to. (2) Toxins and food particles can get trapped in the gut. Some of the common causes are related to pain, inflammation in the gut, digestive issues, allergies, thyroid issues, skin issues, constipation, IBS, ADHD, Autism, mood, stress, migraines, gallbladder issues, liver issues, and autoimmune diseases. GMO – Foods kill microbes in the gut.
Gluten – Can cause inflammation because it’s not properly broken down. It can circulate into your blood stream and cause inflammation in the body. Sugar (toxic) – Causes infection to thrive. Causes an unbalance in the body as sugar turns to yeast and throws off the good bacteria and can cause candida.
Milk (dairy) – For meat eaters or those who eat dairy products, traces of antibiotics and medications fed to the live stalk are found in food.
Food allergies & Food Sensitivities – Hidden food triggers may cause leaky gut, such as food groups in the night shade family or high histamine type foods. Being more aware of these food groups can reduce symptoms of food allergies, skin rashes or acne.

Nutrient Deficiencies 

Nutrient deficiencies are a huge indication that can contribute to symptoms related to leaky gut.  It is important to balance out the microbes and probiotics in the gut. Probiotcs create enzymes to help expedite digestion. It is recommended to take digestive enzymes to help break down the food and gain optimal digestion.

El Glutamine – Protects intestinal gut lining and coats the small intestine giving protection in order for the lining to rebuild.
Fermented Vegetables (probiotics & prebiotics) – The body needs good bacteria to function properly. For example, sauerkraut contains sulfur which heals the intestinal passage because it can help balance out stomach acid.
Squash – Contains high nutrients that can nourish your spleen which can help aid in healing emotional unbalance.
